Take a Chance, and Be Great

It is so often in our lives that opportunities arise and we simply let them pass because we are afraid. But why are we so scared? Why is it such a bad thing if something doesn’t go as planned? I’d like to contend that. I think it’s not only a positive thing, but a necessary one for us to take chances and fail. The same way that a small child will fall countless times while learning to ride a bike, we as people will fall just as many times in our lives. But somewhere along the way we lost that resilience that kept us from staying on the ground. Somewhere we decided we would allow ourselves to get off the bike and forget about it rather than getting back up and working until we could ride our bikes all day long. It makes me sad that so many people refuse to take off the training wheels.

If we decide for ourselves that we are okay with a stagnant lifestyle that is void of risk, then what are we working towards? If we let ourselves remain stuck in our comfort zone, we will never experience anything new, and what’s the fun in that?  I just think that it is so so so important for us to try new things and to fail, for us to say things that we are scared to say, and to do things that we are unsure of.

don’t believe me? Maybe these people will change your mind.

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”

  • Helen Keller

If someone who was deaf and blind was willing to take as many risks as she could, you have no excuse to stay in your comfort zone. Get out there and experience life for all it has, don’t create excuses to accept things the way that they are.

“Don’t be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.”

  • Ralph Waldo Emerson

Life is what you make of it. If you let it be consistent and boring, then it will be. But if you turn it into adventure with plot twists and excitement, then it can be that too.

“If you love someone, you tell them. Even if you’re scared that it’s not the right thing. Even if you’re scared that it’ll cause problems. Even if you’re scared that it will burn your life to the ground, you say it, and you say it loud, and you go from there.”

  • Mark Sloan, Grey’s Anatomy

Take risks when it comes to your relationships. Love someone? Tell them. You’ll probably regret it later on if you never say anything. Who knows, maybe that’s how you’ll find the one.

“If you dare nothing, then when the day is over, nothing is all you will have gained.”

  • Neil Gaiman

Make each and every day count. Try something new, learn something new. You only get so many days on this earth, use them to your advantage.

“History favors risk-takers & forgets the timid. everything else is commentary.”

  • Iveta Cherneva

Don’t let yourself be forgotten. Stand out. Be someone new. Be someone who hasn’t existed before. Embrace your life and live it without second thoughts.

We all have the opportunity to live a life filled with joy and sadness and excitement and boredom and ups and downs and work and play. Don’t let life leave you behind because you were too busy being afraid of what might happen.
